Water Heater Guide in Sparks, NV

The water heater in your home is one of the most critical appliances you have. It’s worthwhile to know more about these devices than just that they produce hot water. This knowledge will help you when things go wrong. You’ll have some sense of whether what’s happening is normal.

Types of Water Heaters

The two main types of water heaters are tank and tankless models. Tank water heaters are the conventional ones with a large tank of water in your garage or elsewhere. A tankless water heater is much smaller and attached to a wall.

If you’re in the market for a new water heater, Gibson Plumbing & Mechanical of Sparks, NV, can help you decide which is right for you. Our plumbers can also repair nearly any type of water heater.

Tank Water Heater

This type of water heater has a tank size ranging from 20 to 80 gallons. It keeps the stored water constantly heated at your desired temperature.

There’s a cold water shut-off valve for when water needs to be drained. There is also a T&P valve that allows excess pressure in the tank to be released in case it gets too high. A drain valve is at the bottom for draining water.

Tankless Water Heater

A tankless water heater doesn’t store water. It only heats water when it’s needed, so it’s very efficient. This device doesn’t have to keep stored water hot. Instead, it produces hot water on demand. Like a tank water heater, it operates on either electricity or gas.

There are only three parts you see on the outside of this type of heater. If it runs on gas, there’s a gas line in. There’s also a cold water line in and a hot water line out.
