Plumbing RepairIf you hear a strange noise coming from your plumbing pipes, the type of sound they’re making can clue you in on what the problem is. There are five common sounds you may hear. These are the things your pipes are trying to tell you.

1. Humming

A humming sound coming from your plumbing pipes means the water pressure is too high. High pressure makes your pipes vibrate, which results in a humming noise. While this sound can occur in any home, it can most often be heard in homes that rely on well water.

2. Whistling

Your home’s plumbing system has many small parts in it. When a part such as a washer wears out, it can make a whistling sound when its section of pipe is being used. This issue most often occurs near your washing machine or dishwasher, since both draw a lot of water.

Gibson Plumbing & Mechanical is a plumbing firm located in Sparks, NV. Our team is experience in solving any type of issue your home’s plumbing system may develop.

3. Banging

This noise indicates a problem with water flow or pressure. The cause can be air bubbles trapped in your pipes due to a water line problem. Banging can also happen when a faucet is suddenly turned off, causing the water racing toward it to immediately stop. This latter issue is known as a water hammer.

4. Gurgling

This noise occurs when a pipe isn’t draining properly. It means there’s a clog that needs a professional drain cleaning to solve.

5. Rattling

Plumbing pipes hang suspended inside your walls, ceilings and floors. If one of a pipe’s fasteners comes loose, you will hear a rattling noise when water passes through. A plumber can pinpoint where the pipe has come loose and refasten it.
